What information should a doctor provide?

A doctor needs your permission for medical treatment. Therefore, your doctor must inform you clearly for you to make an informed decision.

  1. Your doctor should tell you, for example:
  2. what the problem is according to him or her (the diagnosis);
  3. how the treatment goes;
  4. if further tests are needed;
  5. when and how you will get the results of an examination or test;
  6. any risks associated with the examination or treatment;
  7. what your prospects are after treatment;
  8. how you can contribute to a positive outcome of the treatment;
  9. if and when you need to come back.
