Freedom of choice

You are, by law, free to choose your  healthcare provider. No one can direct you to go to a specific  healthcare provider or medical specialist, but there are some limitations:

  • GP’s may be closed to new patients or may not accept you as a new patient if you live more than 15 minutes (by car) from the practice
  • Your health insurance provider may not have contracted your provider of choice, which may result, depending on your policy, in you not receiving full reimbursement for the costs of treatment
  • Some healthcare providers may have a waiting list for the treatment you are seeking.

Check with your health insurance provider before selecting a provider
