Whooping cough vaccine for pregnant women

Whooping cough vaccine for pregnant women

It is important to get a vaccination against whooping cough if you are pregnant. This vaccine will cause your body to make antibodies against the whooping cough bacteria. These antibodies will also protect your baby. They will prevent your baby from becoming seriously ill as a result of whooping cough.

You can get the injection anywhere between 22 weeks of pregnancy until you are due. However, it is advisable to get the injection rather sooner than later to ensure your baby is also protected if he or she is born prematurely. You can get the vaccination at the ‘Consultatiebureau’ (Youth Healthcare Center, Baby Health Clinic). As of December 16th 2019 the vaccine is free of charge for pregnant women.
